Colonial city

Una de las primeras colonias españolas en la conquista

Orosi is a town in Costa Rica, second district of the canton of Paraíso, in the province of Cartago. It is located in a deep valley with a humid climate, surrounded by hills and exuberant vegetation, about 35 km southeast of the capital San José.

It has an estimated population of about 13,056 inhabitants (2014). It is one of the few towns from the colonial era that have survived the frequent earthquakes.

The base of the economy depends to a large extent on tourism and the cultivation and production of coffee.

Most of its territory corresponds to mountainous areas of forest vocation, such as the Río Macho Forest Reserve and the Tapantí National Park. The region is drained by the Rio Grande de Orosi.
