Jacó es una ciudad turística en la costa del Pacífico del centro de Costa Rica, en las afueras de la Bahía de Nicoya.
It is located 72 kilometers southeast of Puntarenas and 97 kilometers southwest of San José, the capital of the Republic. It is the head of the Garabito State of Puntarenas. The area of the Yaco district is 140.41 square kilometers, with an estimated 15,441 inhabitants (2016).
Jacó is located at an altitude of 7 meters, the climate is usually hot and humid, with a relative humidity of around 80%, and can reach 90% in June. The temperature is high and quite uniform throughout the year: 24° to 32°C during the day and 24° to 26°C at night.
In the dry season, far from the sea, the temperature can still exceed 35°C. Jaco is located in a tropical climate zone, mainly defined by very different dry and rainy seasons. In general, the climate is humid from August to early December, and dry from late December to early April; the precipitations in the rest of the month are irregular.
The state of Garabito is an important pole of foreign investment, especially in the construction of beach hotels. It is one of the 10 states with the highest human development index in Costa Rica. Jacó has a beach that is about 4 kilometers long, offering some of the best surfing in the country.
The narrow coastal plain has several mountains, Bahía Herradura to the north and Playa Hermosa to the south. About 15 kilometers north of Jaco is the Carrara National Park, famous for its exuberant fauna and dense tropical jungle. Carrara is one of the largest populations of scarlet macaws in the country. About 5 minutes from the city center is the Tropical Rainforest Adventure Theme Park, recently listed in the top ten NatGeo Adventure Tours for its attractions and contribution to the sustainable development of the area.
